Deceptive Sexuality & Trauma (DST)
A Pathway from Shattering to Sacred Becoming.
For over 16 years, I have walked with individuals and relationships through the darkest traumatic experiences of discovering a “Secret Sexual Basement,” a hidden life of deceptive sexuality and integrity abuse that fractures trust, identity, and the very fabric of reality.
“Healing is human, not just clinical. It is about reclaiming your right to exist, to feel, and to desire.”
The Threshold
When Your World Fragments
When a partner’s secret sexual world is exposed, everything you thought you knew explodes. This is not only screaming heartbreak—it is a horrific shattering of your sense of reality itself.
The Secret Sexual Basement
The Minwalla Model
Imagine your relationship as a home you believed was one you shared as sacred, with a person who vowed love, safety, protection, and commitment. But, beneath the surface existed a hidden basement a secret space layered with deception and compartmentalization, a sexual and relational reality being lived without your knowledge or consent. This powerful metaphor, originated by Dr. Omar Minwalla, helps name the profound violation of trust and choice. It is terrifying when a person collides with this reality of discovering a person’s hidden sexual world and the inability to make complete sense of yourself, the person who harmed you, and the life you were living above it.
Integrity Abuse
The Lock on the Basement Door
Abusive behaviors and tactics such as gaslighting, blame-shifting, twisting the narrative, and manipulation are often used to keep the basement hidden. These harmful relational patterns are kept alive so as not to have the duplicitous life discovered, creating a cycle of self-preservation, identity protection, and fantasy attachment. Integrity Abuse patterns of deception are extremely destructive and create confusion and self-doubt for the intimate partner impacted. The lock keeps the secret sealed and it remains in a covert abuse phase. The victim lives unknowingly above the roaring hum of high octane, where it burns away trust and choice, eroding their sense of self and relationship.
Abuse Victim Trauma (AVT)
You Are Not Crazy
AVT names what happens to a person as a result of living with deceptive sexuality. Symptoms such as hypervigilance, fragmentation, and deep anguish and grief are not signs of weakness or overreaction. They are normal responses to the cracking open someone feels when there is a traumatic psychological injury. You are not crazy, overreacting, and/or too sensitive. You are deeply injured, cannot recognize yourself and your life, and have no landing point of safety.
Structural Injury
Beyond Behavior Change
Deep healing requires more than modifying behavior or applying bandages to wounds. It demands clearing the pain and suffering by moving through it, taking the time to unearth the stories from deep within, metabolizing the enormity of what happened, coming back into alignment, rebuilding a sense of self, and creating a foundation of integrity—where there is a coherent story of thoughts, words, and actions syncing up with truth.
From this Place of Understanding, We Begin the Journey of Reclamation—Moving from Shattering toward Sacred Becoming.
The Path Forward
The Five Stages Towards Reclamation
Based on Minwalla Model’s The Five Stages of Deceptive Sexuality Trauma Treatment
Healing is not linear, but there are recognizable stages on the journey from shattering to sacred becoming. Each stage builds upon the last, creating a pathway toward wholeness.
Landing
Naming the Reality
The first stage is about landing in a sacred and safe-enough container that shines the light on truth. The conscious tone is humility, deep listening, and empathic witnessing. We begin to name the enormity of what has happened: the Secret Sexual Basement, the Integrity Abuse that kept it hidden, and the Abuse Victim Trauma (AVT) that resulted in devastating impacts. By giving words and weight to it all, it can help you to slow down, land more in connection with yourself, and catch your breath…even if for a moment.
- Acknowledging the Secret Sexual Basement—the hidden life that shattered your reality
- Understanding Integrity Abuse: the gaslighting, blame-shifting, and manipulation
- Recognizing AVT symptoms as normal responses to injury, not personal failure
- Beginning to trust your own perceptions again
"I am not crazy, over-reacting, and/or too sensitive. I am deeply injured, cannot recognize myself and my life, and have no landing point of safety."
Restoring
Stabilization & Resilience
This stage is focused on stabilization and building resilience. It is about restoring your sacred and protective "breathable skin" around the rawness of you. We honor your truth as it continues to open along with the emotional impact as it moves. This stage marks moments of reconnecting back to your center and finding ways to do that when the triggers and survival responses ignite and drag you around. Restoring is about creating internal and external spaciousness so you can bring body and mind back into interrelatedness and encourage a state of flow.
- Restoring your sacred and protective "breathable skin"
- Reconnecting back to your center when triggers arise
- Creating internal and external spaciousness
- Bringing body and mind back into interrelatedness
"I deserve protection and stability, honoring my path to come back to the center of me and my wholeness."
Metabolizing, Reforming, Transforming, Rising
Metabolizing the Experience
This stage is full of movement and has a rhythm of clearing and sorting at the deepest innermost self. There is depth of processing that unearths the stored memories and impacts. We tap into and explore the "Deceptive Sexuality Trauma-22 Rooms of Impact"—every area of your life affected by the critical injuries and ripple effects. With care and tenderness, we lift out those things that haunt you, along with freeing your nervous system stories that have you in global high intensity activation.

"My emotions are sacred. I let them move through me. I honor my forward rhythm of metabolization, reforming, transforming, and rising."
Becoming
Wholeness & Aliveness
This stage is about wholeness and evolution of worth and value. This is about deepening our coherent story, where our thoughts, words, and actions align. We do not arrive here as a destination but as an ongoing refinement of our innermost self and the expression of it. We reclaim the precious Triadic Core—physical body, gender, sexuality (Minwalla Model). This is about embracing your rite to exist, to feel, and to desire—moving from the old story of victimization and into the new story of There I Am…Becoming.
- Deepening your coherent story where thoughts, words, and actions align
- Reclaiming the precious Triadic Core: physical body, gender, sexuality
- Embracing your rite to exist, to feel, and to desire
- Moving from victimization into "There I Am…Becoming"
"I am becoming who I was always meant to be. I am in forward motion and allowing the evolution of me. I am blooming my value and worth, honoring my rite of expansion and emancipation from suffering."
We Spark
Connection & Liberation
This stage extends beyond individual healing. Here, you stand embodied in truth. Your vibrant life force is expressing a beautiful soul song, reminding you that you are in rhythm with you again. There is a strength and a sense of empowerment that carries you forward, reconnecting you with others at a deeper level, and potentially igniting hope in fellow travelers on this path. This stage is when we feel that magnificent spark, and it lights the path forward.
- Standing embodied in truth with your vibrant life force
- Reconnecting with others at a deeper level
- Igniting hope in fellow travelers on this path
- Feeling that magnificent spark that lights the path forward
"I am in rhythm with myself again. My life force lights my path forward and liberates me. This spark in me reaches others so they can have hope for truth and freedom."
